When King Kong arrived on screens in 1933, the tale of the gigantic gorilla was hailed as one of the first great special effects science fiction adventure epics. The gorilla was brought to life through the art of stop motion photography, an effect that was groundbreaking for it's time. Tiny models were adjusted a mere fraction between each frame of film and the resulting animation was terrifying to its 1930's audience and to the future generations of fans that followed.
In 2005, it is the wizardry of computer animation that brings King Kong to life once more. Behind the scenes the movements of actor Andy Serkis, who studied gorillas in Africa in preparation for his role, were transformed into the fearsome figure of King Kong by the team at Weta Digital. The resulting 25-foot beast marks a breathtaking new era in Kong's reign over our cinema screens.
