WHAT IS MANUKA OIL
Manuka oil is the essential oil extract of the manuka tree (Leptospermum Scoparium). The Manuka tree is the New Zealand version of the Australian Tea Tree, and ia sometimes called by this name. It is a bushy plant with small spiky leaves that produces white or pink flowers. The manuka is indigenous to the eastern coast of New Zealand.
To extract the essential oil, the chopped plant material undergoes a steam distillation. It has been proven to contain antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal, anti-parasitic and anti-inflammatory properties. Its antibacterial effectiveness is approximately 30 times more potent than the Australian Tea Tree.
Manuka Oil has many different uses and is generally applied topically to skin. It can be diluted when applied to sensitive skin by adding a few drops into base oil. The oil can be particularly effective against acne, dermatitis, tinea, and parasites.
