From 1981 until 24 hour television broadcasts began in New Zealand in 1994, the TVNZ Kiwi marked the end of each day’s television. In the minute long animation, the TVNZ Kiwi, would stretch and switch off the lights in main control room before putting out an empty milk bottle on the front poach before taking an elevator to bed in a satellite dish where his friend the Cat would curl up on his feet. The TVNZ Kiwi’s familiar place on New Zealand television screens earned him the name of the fond nickname of the Goodnight Kiwi.
