TVNZ Kiwi and the Cat Necklace
Goodnight Kiwi Says It’s Time for Bed
Every night between 1981 and 1994 when 24 hour television broadcasts began, the TVNZ Kiwi, or Goodnight Kiwi told all Kiwis it was time to go to bed. The animation marking the end of the nightly broadcast showed the Goodnight Kiwi and his friend the cat shutting down the screens in a main control room, putting out the lights and locking the door. The pair then ride an elevator to their bed in a satellite dish. The effect of the Goodnight Kiwi on the New Zealand culture is so strong that the ‘Goodnight Kiwi Song’ the Maori lullaby, Hine e Hine still makes many New Zealanders head to bed!
This TVNZ Kiwi and the Cat celebrate 50 years of television in New Zealand and the part that the Goodnight Kiwi and his friend the Cat still play in many people’s lives. This stunning necklace features a pendant which shows the TVNZ Kiwi and the Cat side by side, just as they are remembered.
The TVNZ Kiwi and the Cat necklace is available in either 9 carat yellow gold or sterling silver. Select your choice from the drop down menu below. Website price shown applies to Silver only. There is an extra charge for the 9 carat Goodnight Kiwi and Cat, as noted below.
